Andrew Emmott

Andrew Emmott is Managing Director of Nutcellars and Chair of Neno Macadamia Trust, with over 20 years’ experience working in smallholder agricultural value chains across Southern Africa. A third-generation Emmott working in Malawi, he has spent more than three decades developing the smallholder macadamia sector, supporting farmer resilience through climate-smart agroforestry and long-term, partnership-led trade including as a supplier to the “Our Malawi Partnership”.

Andrew’s career spans multinational agribusiness, precision farming research, international development, and social enterprise. He has led and advised projects with organisations including the African Development Bank, GIZ, DFID and USAID, focusing on nut value chain development, food safety, and market access for smallholder farmers. He has been instrumental in establishing cooperative-led value chain models, investments into inclusive businesses and linking farmers to premium export markets, while also addressing systemic challenges such as aflatoxin in groundnuts.

Through Nutcellars and Neno Macadamia Trust, Andrew now combines trading, blended finance, and climate-focused development into an integrated model with complimentary Fairtrade macadamia nut and carbon value chains. These value chains underpin trading and capacity building of cooperatives, with carbon payments that support a climate smart macadamia agroforestry system designed to strengthen long-term livelihoods with resilience to environmental, economic and food security shocks.

With a background that combines corporate agribusiness leadership, academic research, and hands-on experience working with smallholder cooperatives in Malawi, Andrew works closely with businesses, investors, and sustainability leaders to demonstrate how ethical supply chains can deliver both premium product quality and meaningful impact.
